ROMOKE'S DIARY CHAPTER 14

Chapter 14

Tobi was exactly my type of man. Tall, dark skinned, with a great sense of humor. We connected instantly. He and Cole are family friends but he schooled in the U.S. He's been away for 6years and he got his Masters Degree there too. His parents forced him to come home so he can settle down and find a wife. We got talking and we seem to have a lot of things in common. He's a totally great guy. "You're so lucky Romoke! I envy you. I just pray everything works out well because you guys are a perfect match."Sewa said as we were in my room one night. "Chill now. Its just been 2weeks we met. I'm not rushing anything abeg. Besides he hasn’t officially asked me out so we're just friends for now. But the guy is hot, no doubt." I said with a wink. "Yes I know. But very soon you guys would start dating and then marriage would follow." She said. "Nawa oh. Wedding planner. Are you tired of seeing me or what? I don’t even think I'm ready for marriage anytime soon." I told her. "You don’t have to be ready na. when he proposes, tell him you're not ready and see if I wont kill you." we both laughed.

*3weeks later*
"Hi baby. How are you?" Vanessa's voice sounded through the phone. "I'm fine. How you doing?" I asked her. "I'm alright, just missing you terribly. I'll be coming to Lagos in two days so get ready to give me all the sugar baby." "Oh! Errm okay but I'm not sure I'll have time to see you. You know my final exams are less than a month away and I have to prepare." I informed her. "When did that become a problem for us? Of course I know your exams are close and I wont be disturbing you or anything like that. I just wanna see you at least." She said, sounding hurt. "Vanessa you don’t understand. We see almost every weekend so not seeing me for a few weeks isn't that hard. You'll try and adjust, I just have to concentrate. I'm sorry." I said. "Really? So I wont get to see you when I come? Are you serious?" She asked with surprise. "We'll see but I cant stay over or anything like that. We can hang out for a few hours than I'll go back to school. Alright?" "Wow. I cant believe this, but its okay. I'll let you know when I'm around." She said. "Okay that's fine. Take care." I hung up. Its high time we had a heart to heart talk. I'm tired of this whole thing. Tobi and I are dating now and he obviously adores me. Let me have a real relationship and stop the lesbianism thing with Vanessa. Thank God she's coming in two days' time. I'll know how I'll put it to her. Vanessa can be very stubborn at times, so I don’t know how she'll take it. Anyways, she cant kill me. I'll just tell her my mind. She'll have to deal with it abeg. I thought to myself as I got dressed. Tobi and I are going on a date tonight.

*2days later*
I'm sitting opposite Vanessa. We're having dinner at The Place, Lekki. "So what's up with the attitude? Did I do something wrong?" She asked me. I sat up straight. "Nothing. We have to talk." I said to her. "Yeah. We really have to talk. Let's talk now." I cleared my throat. "See, Vanessa I really appreciate all you've done for me. You're an absolutely amazing girl and I'm so glad I met you. But right now, I'm moving forward. I wanna have a real relationship with a guy. I'm not getting an younger, and neither are you. We both need to move on and stop this madness. Don’t you want to get married and have kids?" She stared at me like I was mad. "What rubbish are you talking about? You wanna end it with me? that's impossible, Romoke. I'm sure you're joking. Wait. One of those guys has been telling you about marriage abi? That's the problem I have with you. You're too trusting. You believe people easily. These boys don’t love you, okay? The high time you realized that, the better for you. What do we need marriage for? Kids yeah? We can always adopt kids if you want. I just wanna be with you, that’s all. Don’t listen to these niggas." She said seriously. I looked at her carefully. This girl is a psycho. So she doesn’t want to get married and have a normal life. What strange talk is this? I was dumbfounded. "Vanessa you need to understand me. We are both girls, hope you know that. We're two females and we cant be together. We cant fucking adopt anybody. This is Nigeria and its not done. Our parents wouldn’t even allow it. Let's move on, okay? You'll fall in love, I'm pretty sure about that. You're moving to the states by the end of the year, so we wont be seeing anymore. I know you'll definitely get a nice guy over there, who'll love you for who you are. You are a great girl and you deserve someone equally great. You have to……" "Oh shut the fuck up!! Just shut up please. You're annoying me with this talk. You think I'm gonna leave you in Nigeria, yeah? Is that the issue? I'll start making plans so you can come join me as soon as I get there. Everything is gonna work out fine, babe. I promise you. I don’t like it when you say things like this. Or is there something you need? What is it? Tell me." She said. "No Vanessa. I'm in love with someone. A guy, and he loves me too." I said with care. She raised an eyebrow, then she laughed. "OMG. Really? You're in love with a guy? Now this has got to be the Joke of the Year." "I'm not joking, Vanessa. His name is Tobi, and we're serious with each other. That's why I need you to get a guy too. We've done this thing for too long, it has to stop." Her face turned angry. "WTF. So you've been doing a guy behind my back? You've got to be kidding me. How could you do such a thing? How could you, Romoke?" She was raising her voice. "Hey calm down, alright. We're in public. Stop raising your voice, please. You're drawing attention." I pleaded. "Now, don’t fucking tell me to calm down. You're such a disgusting person. I cant believe this." She walked out of the restaurant, leaving me to the staring eyes of amebo Nigerians.
