Chapter 18
"I knew it. I knew you and Vanessa were lesbians. The love was more than normal." Sewa said to me few minutes after Vanessa left. I was stupefied. I stared at her blankly. "Err what do you mean? What are you talking about?" I stammered. "Oh stop it with the pretence. I heard you guys conversation and I heard your sounds when you were at it. You both are so disgusting." She spat. I couldn’t say anything. I just stared at nothing in particular. "I don’t understand how you can still be doing Vanessa when you already have a great guy that thinks the world of you. Do you know how many girls would kill just to have a man like Tobi all to themselves? Oh! You're so irritating." Sewa said angrily. "Oh shut up! Do you think I don’t know all that? Yes Vanessa and I used to be together but I already told her I'm not interested anymore because I'm getting married, but she's a freaking psycho!!!!!! She wouldn’t listen to me. That’s the reason why I've been avoiding her all this while, till you stupidly brought her home today." I shouted. I was getting angry myself. Sewa glared at me. "How the fuck was I supposed to know all this? Besides you were just in bed with her a few hours ago, moaning for the world. How disgusting can you get? You say you've been avoiding her, and then she shows up suddenly and you're all wet for her in no time. You're unbelievable, and you really do not deserve a man like Tobi. You don’t know what you want, and I pity you!!!!!" She blurted out as she stormed out of my room. I put my head in my hands and cried. Of course Sewa was right. I'm an idiot. I don’t deserve Tobi. I'm such an asshole. I feel like punching myself. Talk of self control, I couldn’t even control myself around Vanessa. I shouldn’t have given in to her advances. Oh my God what have I done? I kept asking myself as I cried my eyes out.
*2WEEKS LATER*
Vanessa has stopped calling me. Sewa called her and threatened to get her arrested if she didn’t stay away from me. She let her know I wasn’t interested anymore, that I was getting married soon, and she should move on with her life and allow me live a normal life. I'm glad I have my sister now. She was really angry with me at first and wouldn’t speak to me for days. I felt really bad and I explained everything to her and she forgave me. I'm happy she's spoken with Vanessa now and I hope she stays away. She should just travel to the states already and let me be. Anyways Sewa has been really helpful and supportive these past weeks. She's become like my best friend. She promised not to tell anyone about my relationship with Vanessa. I don’t know what I'd have done without her, for real.
"Romoke, when is Tobi bringing his parents here to meet us?" My mom asked me as we were all watching TV one day. "They're coming back to Nigeria in a week's time. I'll talk to him and find out when they'll be coming here." I replied. "Very good." My dad nodded. "I cant believe you'll soon be married, Romoke. Thank God my prayers for you were not in vain." That was Jibade, my brother. I glared at him, and Mom hit him playfully on the back. "You're too rude. When I get married I'll see if you'll still be talking to me anyhow. Stupid boy." I hissed and he chuckled. "You're going to be home alone for the weekend. Now how do you feel about that?" He said, smiling mischievously. "What do you mean I'll be home alone? I know Mom and Dad are travelling, but you and Sewa aren't going with them, are you?" I asked. "Well, I'm going for a business meeting in Port Harcourt and Sewa wants to go with me. She's gonna go say hi to Uncle James and Aunt Patricia and I know you don’t particularly like them so you wouldn’t be interested in going, would you?" Jibade asked. I shrugged. "Oh. Really? I'd be fine. You guys have fun. I'm not going." I said. My parents looked at me questioningly. "Are you sure you don’t wanna go with them?" "No Mom I don’t feel like travelling. I'll be fine, don’t worry about me. I'm sha an adult." I said. "Na so. You can go to Tobi's house sef and stay for the weekend or else boredom would just kill you." Jibade said, laughing. "Shut up I can take care of myself, and its none of your business anyway." I shut him up. I got up and went upstairs to my room.
*FRIDAY 6.30pm*
I just got out of the shower and I was drying my hair. I had called Tobi earlier to let him know I'd be spending the weekend at his place. He was coming to pick me up by 8pm. I could drive well now, but Tobi insisted on coming to pick me up. I stood in front of my mirror and looked at my body. I realized I've added weight. Guess its because I'm out of school now and I've been getting more than enough rest. I've been eating well too. I heard footsteps in the house. Did I leave the door open or what? I'm sure I locked the door when I got back from dropping all of them at the airport. Who could be in the house? My heart was beating faster as the footsteps came closer. I wrapped my towel firmly around me and I cautiously walked to my door and turned the knob. I came face to face with Vanessa. She was wearing a white camisole and bum shorts. Her hair was scattered and her eyes were red. She looked like she'd been smoking and taking drugs a lot. She was obviously high. We stared at each other for a few seconds. "What are you doing in my house, Vanessa? And how did you get in here?" I said as I found my voice. She smiled and that was when I saw the knife
